What is Dance
Movement Therapy?
Dance Movement
Therapy is the use of dance and movement to develop a deeper
understanding of the individual self.
Through the use of
movement and / or dance, the client and therapist will explore
the therapy space together exploring personal and interpersonal
issues that may affect the individual or group.
We all use our
bodies to express emotions and fear regardless of our ability or
disability. One of the roles of the Dance Movement Therapist is
to encourage the awareness of one self and the abilities one may
have for expression through movement.
Dance Movement
Therapists practice in a wide range of environments; being
employed by the NHS, working in prisons, schools, working with
groups and individual clients who have a wide variety of needs
and disabilities.
