Each BCAT therapist is qualified and registered in one of the four arts therapies - Art, Dance Movement, Drama or Music. Therapy sessions may take place on an individual or group basis, creating a "safe" environment, which encourages communication and self-expression. Emotional, behavioural, social, educational, cross-cultural and physical needs may be addressed, supporting clients within BCAT and within the wider community.
BCAT is an equal opportunities employer and a service provider to all clients of all nationalities
PROCEDURE FOR REFERRAL OF CLIENTS & IMPLEMENTATION OF THERAPY
Referrals may be made through education, health or social services, by private organisations, by parents and carers, or by individuals themselves.
The initial procedure for referral is to telephone, write, or e-mail BCAT, giving details of the individual(s) concerned. A consultation session is then offered, which may take the form of a visit to the Centre. If preferred, a representative of BCAT may visit the referrer's venue.
Either on this, or on subsequent visit(s), an official assessment session will be undertaken with the individual(s) referred and a recommendation(s) made. This may be that the referred individual enrols for 1:1 therapy sessions, or joins a small group. It might be appropriate for a small group of individuals who have similar needs to form their own group, at the discretion of the therapist.
Therapy sessions may take place either at BCAT, or as outreach sessions at the client(s)' venue, by arrangement. If not held at BCAT, suitable facilities for the sessions should be available at the client(s)' venue.
Before commencement of sessions, therapists and clients (or their carers) enter into an agreement, which sets out and clarifies expectations on both sides. This covers such details as content of sessions, written assessments and reports, expectations of the client's and therapist's behaviour, conditions of cancellation of sessions by either party, etc.
Information concerning issues of confidentiality, grievance procedures and details of insurance policies will shortly be fully documented and available on application from BCAT.
